Cheeky Devils To Cheer The Crowds at the Thiksey Gustor festival in Ladakh
Granted, the festival proceedings can be a solemn affair. So inorder to lighten the mood they conduct performances where novice monks dressed as cheeky devils come out to work the crowds. They perform their own version of the dance: hop, skip and jumping from one corner of the courtyard to the other. Every once in a while, they go among the crowd to perform mischef, getting into mock fights with the audience and sometimes they snatch and run off with the audience's belongings like caps and snacks etc. All this is carried out in good sprit and works up huge bouts of laughter from the crowd making this definitely one of the memorable moments from the festival.

Small Pinocchio toys hanging at one of the stalls at the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Bangkok.
Lots of knick knacks available to cater to the tourists. They are lovely though. It'll make for wonderful gifts.

Busy sidelines are where the action is.
The center of the canal is kept clear for two-way boat traffic but the sides are where the action is. Along both banks of the canals, there numerous boat stalls selling stuff ranging from drool inducing snacks and sweets to fresh tasty fruits. Its hard to keep your taste buds on leash here.

Cycling on the grassy Sarchu Plains.
The Sarchu Plains, is a high altitude (4300m) grassy plain forming the valley system between the Great Himalaya and Zanskar ranges. The Yunam river cuts through the Sarchu plains forming a deep, wide canyon in the middle of the grasslands. At the far end of these plains lie the Sarchu camp, consisting of numerous tented camps providing hot food and accommodation to weary travelers. Most people driving along the Leh-Manali highway take a break here at Sarchu as it provides the widest range of accommodation options.I stayed here while cycling the Manali-Leh highway in 2010. I loved these grasslands so much so that i took a extra day off to camp in the grasslands and explore its surroundings. The place was a little dry and brown when i visited (30'th Sept). The best time, i was told, to visit is during early september when the rains would've stopped and the grass would be at its greenest.

A hat vendor at the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Bangkok.
I love how this picture has a washed out movie posted look. The reason probably is because the focus is on the hats instead of the boy's face giving him a soft blurry look.

Penciled trail along the steep cliffs.
After the Gata Loops the road climbs up a steady slope towards the Nakeela pass. On this stretch keep a look out for the mountains on the far (right) side of the road, they'll have steep cliffs with a trail precariously penciled across it. Even from far it looks a scary proposition to tackle that path.
